Doesn’t it feel good…

Doesn’t it feel good to be nice to someone? It sure does…

Today I was at the grocery store and a nice older african american gentleman who worked there in the wine section asked if I needed any help. To be completely honest I was about to just say no thank you and keep walking but an instinct told me not to. I wanted to see if they had this bottle of Beaujolais that I really like (you know how I love wine). He was an intelligent and articulate older man that had a lot of good recommendations and I found we had a common love for wine. I told him about a particular bottle that they sold at another one of it’s stores that they didn’t have and he found 2 of the same brand, small 375ml bottles (fyi 2 of these make up 1 regular  750ml bottle). He said he’d give them both to me for the price of one 750ml that they charged at the other stores, which saved me all but maybe 7 bucks. Anyway it’s not about the money but about the way this person treated me and his manor and uncommon warmth.

I felt so good about this experience I decided to call in to the store 3 hours later to thank him for that experience. As simple as it sounds, he said that it made his day. Well in fact he made my day!

In our culture we are taught to not go above and beyond the normal humdrum of everyday life patterns. We are taught not to look people in the eyes or to acknowledge someone’s presence. In L.A. we drive our cars in traffic like little bubbles, in NYC we sit on subways and pretend the person next to us doesn’t exist. We are ok with the mundane status quo living that our parents brought us up to.

If you love me as much as I love you then I ask you to do this…as an exercise…engage or interact with someone you normally would never even think to. Whether it’s commenting on his/her awesome shoes, hat, choice, decision, action or whatever! It’s such a simple thing to do but put yourself out on the line and risk feeling embarrassed. No you don’t have to feel like you are hitting on someone to strike up a conversation about something, that’s how our culture thinks! It might sound a bit selfish to make yourself feel better by making others feel better but in fact it’s that kind of selfishness that we all need. Please come back and comment here as I’d love to hear about your own experience!

Ok I’m done with sounding like a self help book! The wine is kicking in!

Love you all!

Harry Nilsson Fan Jam Collaboration!

Hey friends!

So if you don’t already know, I’m a big fan of Harry Nilsson’s music. I was originally just going to video myself playing “Good Old Desk”. Then I thought how much fun it would be to have my online friends play with me! So in the next few days I’ll be recording a rendition on Wurly for you to play to! All you have to do is grab your video camera and play along to my video on youtube as a reference point and record yourself playing in time. I’ll post the video  of me playing it here as soon as it’s ready.

Musicians I’m looking for: Electric or Standup Bass, Trumpet, Percussion (Drums/Tamborine/Triangle/Shakers or even you hand clappers!) Violins or Violas,  Backup singers (make sure you sing in tune!). Send me an email if you would like to participate and we will work out the details! I’ll pick the best musicians and edit the video together for one hell of an online live performance! Harry would be proud :)

My Kitchen Wall Remodel!

For the past couple of years or so I’ve had a really terrible kitchen problem. When I first moved into my loft I decided I wanted a bright Kelly Green wall in my kitchen so I decided from a sample at Home Depot and once the whole wall was painted I hated it! It looked like an alien’s den.

After a few years of procrastinating and putting it off finally this weekend I had it done. Of course I couldn’t have done it myself, it’s an art cutting around pipes and lining it up so precisely. Take a look, I actually had to clean up my kitchen. I’m no longer a hoarder in the kitchen!

Gay Oil Wrestling Party + Grace Jones = My Weekend

I had a great unusually fun weekend that I thought I’d share with you.

Friday night I got invited to a gay birthday party in Echo Park with oil wrestling! Yeah I know! It was pretty hilarious and not at all like the back alley sex rump kind! At one point the birthday boy was in his thong striking poses and vogue-ing! Here’s some photos:

Sunday I decided at the last minute to go see Grace Jones play at the Hollywood Bowl. I scored face value tickets in seats right behind the front section! Of Montreal one of my favorite bands opened for her, their set was a bit simple but it wasn’t all about them. Well except for the many costumes of farm animals!

Mrs. Jones blew me away, it was surprise after surprise. She is 61 and has a body of a goddess. Numerous costume changes, a powerful manly voice and all that talking from behind stage while she was changing into outfits. I’ll let all these videos speak for themselves.

All footage I shot, except for the last red dressed one, almost got me thrown out from a mean usher! One day as all phones will have video cameras on them, the venues are just going to have to give up policing video! That law is so 1980s!

The first video is mindblowingly wild, watch the whole thing! The end one you get to see her  naked!
